What is solar energy?
Solar energy is renewable energy from Sun. That means it is sustainable, clean and green.

How do solar photovoltaic (SPV) cells work?
Photovoltaic (PV) cells or solar cells are small semiconductor units in the panels that collect solar energy (radiation) and convert into electricity.

How many units will solar system generate?
A 1KW solar system can generate 120-175 units per month. Make sure you invest in good panels and power control units (or smart inverters).

What are the savings on electricity bills?
It depends, in part, on how much electricity you use and how efficient the appliances are that you operate. A combination of energy efficient appliances and light bulbs can help reduce your homes energy bill by over two-thirds. Through a well designed solar system for your needs, you can reduce electricity bills up to 40 percent.

Can Air Conditioner be run on solar system?
Yes, you can run an AC on a solar power system. Not all of them can support ACs. Please check with the service provider before investing more. To run ACs, you need to invest in a bigger system.

What is the difference between Inverter and Solar system?
Inverter is a backup system that is activated when there is a power cut. Inverter uses grid power to charge batteries, so you will never reduce electricity bill by using an inverter. We are trying to reduce the usage of grid power and encourage renewable energy and also reduce electricity bill. Solar system works fine during day time if grid fails. Moreover when both grid and solar fail, batteries will be activated. With solar system, batteries are charged through solar panels.


How much does a solar power system cost after 30% MNRE subsidy?
An internationally reputed 1KW solar power system will cost between Rs. 1.6L and 2.2L after 30% subsidy. The system includes solar panels, inverter, structure, bricks, cable, nuts and bolts, change-over box, installation and commissioning and VAT.

We hear from the market that 1KW solar power system is being sold at 1L?
There is always competition in every sector; it is good to have healthy competition. There are systems that are sold at Rs. 1L for 1KW but please check the Make, Warranty, Service Reputation, Financial Strength of such companies because they will have to sustain themselves for 15-25 years of warranty time. It is finally up to customers to decide to go with branded versus non-branded. Also consider products that are result of R&D versus. ones remade.

Will solar power help the environment?
The use of solar panels dramatically reduces the size of your carbon footprint. Solar energy is renewable and alternative to power plants that burn fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gases, which lead to global warming.

How much maintenance do solar energy panels require?
Solar photovoltaic panels require little maintenance – no need to wash or dust daily. It is important to place panels where they will remain clear of shade and debris. It does require cleaning when required. Just make sure no water is logged or no layer of dust is formed.

Is the system 1-phase or 3-phase?
The residential systems are generally 1-phase. However, there are 3-phase systems available in the market and work equally good. Typically 1-phase systems are off-grid (battery-supported) and 3-phase Grid Connected (no batteries). When there is a power cut, the 3-phase systems don’t work, where as 1-phase continues to work through batteries. Off-grid requires batteries and Grid Connected doesn’t.

What are the subsidies?
Yes. MNRE (govt. of India) offers up to 30% subsidy. State governments offer 20% for Grid Connected 3-phase systems only. Please check with your state government solar energy policies. They differ from state to state.

Do you handle paperwork for Central and state government incentives?
Yes, we do

How long have you been in solar business?
We, as a group, have been in the solar business since September 2012.

What is the warranty?
The warranties vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and we normally work with those companies that have at least 15-25 years of warranty on panels.

Does the power (one generates) get used in the property first or sent to the grid first?
The electricity from the solar power system will get used in your property first. Only the excess gets supplied to the grid.

What is a Net Metering?
Net Metering means solar power generated is used by the home first and then excess energy supplied to the grid for which you will be paid or your bill adjusted at a fixed rate by the local government. Net meter measures the difference between power generated and power used.

What is the difference between Net Metering and Gross Metering?
Gross metering measures all the power your solar panels produce and all the power that you use in the house. Net metering measures only the difference between what your solar power system produces and what you consume.

Do you offer maintenance service?
Yes, we do

Can it be financed?
Yes. Consider using a loan for the purchase of a solar system apart from taking full advantage of subsidies or any tax deductions.

What payment options do you offer?
At this point (Aug 2013) we are exploring various payment options to relieve customers from one-time payment and help them with monthly installments.

Do you offer packaged systems? 
Yes, we offer packaged systems apart from customized systems.

When should anyone seek a solar professional?
Although solar energy systems work in parallel with conventional residential electrical and plumbing systems, there are quirks in the process well suited to seeking out professionals. Our professionals can help you determine the type and size of system most suited for your needs.

How long will it take to install a solar power system in my home?
It may take 5 days to 2 weeks to plan, supply, install and commission the order.

Are solar panels right for my home?
There are factors that you need to check.

  • Does your terrace/roof get much sun exposure?
  • Is the exposure free of trees and buildings?
  • What's the pitch of your roof? Normally need from flat to 60 degrees.
  • Does solar make sense for your budget?

How much sun do solar panels need?
Sunlight is important for solar, so even cloudy days are ok for solar energy. What matters more is your roof which has to be free of shade to get plenty of sunshine.

How much space do I need for a solar photovoltaic system?
This simple thumb rule will give you an idea: 1 KW system requires anywhere from 70-100sft based on the size of the panels.

How much shading is too much for solar photovoltaic panels?
Unfortunately shading a photovoltaic system dramatically decreases its output. Just shading the bottom row of wafers alone amounts to an 80% reduction in efficiency.

Do I need to have south facing exposure to have a solar energy system?
Although southern exposure increases the effectiveness of a residential solar power system, your home may still work for solar power without having south facing exposure.

What is the best type of roof for solar panels?
Solar works on many kinds of roofs. There are exceptions and we are better equipped to suggest after a feasibility study.

Will solar panels work if my roof isn’t new?
In general, we recommend that your roof be less than 15 years old if you decide to go solar. If your roof needs to be replaced or repaired, it's best to do so before you get solar. However, we will suggest only after examining the roof.

How many solar panels do I need to run my home?
The size of your solar system depends on a number of factors:

  • Usage of electricity for your home
  • Angle, pitch, and direction of your roof
  • Available unobstructed roof space

Should I consider a ground mounted solar system?
If your roof isn’t optimal for solar and you have ground space, you might choose a ground mounted solar system.

How do I get power at night with home solar? 

  • A process called net metering allows you to benefit from the day's production.
  • The additional electricity that is not being used during the day flows back into the grid and runs your meter backwards, earning you credits.
  • At night, when your solar system is not producing any electricity, the credit you earned during the day carries over, and you take electricity back from the grid.

What happens when it rains, or hails? 
Solar panels can handle some pretty tough weather. They are also built to withstand direct lightning strikes and thunderstorms as other electrical/electronic devices. They are prone to the same environmental effects as any other electrical / electronic items.

If the grid fails, will my home solar power system keep producing electricity?
If it is off-grid, it will work through solar and batteries; if Grid Connected, it will automatically shut off to protect the workers on power lines from being exposed to live electricity.

How much will I be paid for the electricity I generate?
Your bill will be adjusted at Rs. 3.50 for electricity exported to the grid. Please check with your local government’s fixed rate for excess energy generated,

What experience and certification do you have?

Can I use normal car batteries (lead acid type) with the solar system?
It is not recommended that car batteries be used for solar systems. Tubular batteries are recommended for longer life, more storage and efficient discharge. 

How does solar water heater work?
A solar water heater system is different from solar power system. Solar water heater works by collecting Sun’s heat and transferring it into water container that is used for your hot water needs. It is thermal-based whereas solar power is light-based.
